Evolution of the post-war Minx was slow and gradual, and the lines of this 1952 Phase V drophead suggest that not much had changed since 1948.

As restrictions on car purchase in Britain began to ease and market conditions elsewhere began to return to normality, so Rootes judged that the time was right for a little gaiety in their showrooms. Besides, 1953 would be Coronation year, and was also the twenty-first anniversary of the availability of the first Hillman Minx. So although there were only minimal cosmetic and mechanical changes for the new Minx announced in February 1953, there were some new models to accompany it. There was a change of designation, too: rather than a Phase VI, the 1953 Minx was now called a Mark VI.
